I Never Existed

I never existed
but that doesn’t mean I am any less interesting
than the next guy
I never grew in the forest
never fell
I was never observed nor hugged
nor nested in
chopped down
burned by fire
struck by lightening
nor climbed by squirrels
but I am giving all of that
serious thought

serious thought is what I am about
it is what tells me to forget
existence
to not venture beyond ideas like
Dr. King living to one hundred
steaming cocoa for the homeless
infinite off ramps for cardboard Picassos
who need work
cash
and control over the future
of history

they and I do not exist
and I optimize that non-existence

won’t you give up existence with me
and find new meaning in absolute
nothingness?
you who has everything to lose
you who forgets at times you are breathing
that blood is reinventing your cells,
and so I speak
but the words disappear
like currents
beneath the surface of the pitch-black pond
the void upon which I float
in a boat carved from that tree.
